BAJA BOOK BEAT
We are back
to begin yet another year here at the book store….hard
to believe but this will be the start of our 7th
year in business…..much as changed at the
book store….from 12 book cases of old paperbacks
to an inventory of somewhere around 30,000 plus
books has been quite a ride for us…..
Again this
year we will continue to improve the quality and
variety of books you will find here……besides
what one expects in the way of pop paperbacks we
have some very interesting books in the following
sections………
ADVENTURE-TRAVEL/ALLIEN-UFO/ART/ALTERNATIVE LIFE
STYLES
BIOGRAPHIES/CHRISTIAN/CLASSICS/CRAFTS/COOK BOOKS
CUBAN HISTORY/CHILDREN/EASTERN RELIGION/GENEOLOGY/HEALTH-DIET/HUMOR/HISTORICAL

In addition
we have a fine selection of Baja books….including
some copies of the hard to find Dawson Series……several
Spanish phrase books along with Spanish/English
Dictionaries…..
Many of you
have inquired about the publication date of the
new BAJA ALMANAC…..in my latest conversation
with the author he believes it will be available
in the first part of November and we will have it
in stock as soon as it is available….
NEW
MAPS
We are now carrying some very nice maps from Esparza
Editores Map Co. these are high quality maps and
in addition to their BAJA map we have city maps
of MEXICALI and ENSENADA…..a fine wall map
of the BAJA.
And what will make a super Xmas gift is their Baja
wall calendar priced at $5.00…..
Two Baja standards
which almost everyone has used in the past are now
out-of-print and we have not been able to ascertain
exactly when the new editions will be printed……we
were able to obtain 2 copies of Roadside Geology
and Biology of Baja California and about a dozen
copies of Baja California Plant Field Guide…
During the summer
spent in places like Los Angeles/ San Francisco
and the Pacific Northwest we were able to find and
transport down here many new titles….and in
one area I believe you will be pleasantly surprised
….COOK BOOKS…..we found so many wonderful
cook books and have really expanded this section…..many
on special diets... vegetarian/low carb/weight watchers…..ethnic
recipes from around the world……and as
always we carry local favorites …The Tequila
Cook Book/The Chili-Lovers Cook Book/The Salsa-Lovers
Cook Book/Tacos y Mas…..and for the many of
you who have Frida fever we carry Frida’s
Fiestas – Recipes and Reminiscences of Life
with Frida Kahlo……
Cave Paintings
Baja California…..Gateway to Alta California…Portrait
of Paloma are all books by noted Baja Author Harry
W. Crosby that we have in stock….Gateway To
Alta California- Having set the stage in his masterly
Antigua California, Crosby now takes us northward-
via primary sources and personal exploration—as
Spain makes its final push into the Alta California
that had for so long remained an unattainable goal.
Like Herbert Eugene Bolton before him, Harry W.
Crosby is at his most insightful and convincing
when functioning at the intersection point of on-the-ground
exploration and archival research. Here is a major
contribution to the story of California and the
larger history of the Spanish borderlands. –
Dr. Kevin Starr State Librarian of Calif
The Cave Paintings
of Baja California-Discovering the Great Murals
of an Unknown People.. This full-color account,
revised and expanded from the original edition,
depicts the author’s discovery and documentation
of a world-class archaeological region in remote
central Baja California. The paintings were unveiled
to the modern world in the 1960’s by adventure
writer Erle Stanley Gardner in conjunction with
a comprehensive study by Dr. Clement Meighan of
UCLA. These Great Murals, whose origins remain mysterious
to this day, rank with those of southern France,
northern Spain, northwest Africa, and outback ….
Portrait of
Paloma-An engaging novel that is at heart a love
story, Portrait of Paloma is also a provocative
tale of gender, generation, and what two people
can learn when they trust each other enough to bridge
the divides of both……
“…of
Sea and Sand.” Is Bruce Barber’s fine
book which he describes as a drama of Two Living
Deserts….some of the interesting facts covered
by Bruce are a Mexican Frontier….30,00 years
of indigenous man’s presence….Where
America’s early lunar astronauts trained…..the
location of 600 volcanoes…in excess of 12,00
Indian cave drawings…more than a dozen ancient
Indian intaglios….Shellmounds describing 2,000
years of early man’s activity and water-cut
gorges to compare with any on earth…….
The San Felipe
Title Company (the book store) is open from 9 A.M.
till 4 P.M. everyday except Monday…we are
located in the finicial hub of downtown San Felipe…at
the corner of Mar de Cortez and Chetumal…up

BLUEROADRUNNER…RANDY LAND……and
